Positivity rate drops below 2%

Hospitaliz­ations increase by 4

After Connecticu­t saw its highest COVID-19 positivity rate since early May this week, it’s dropped slightly below 2% Wednesday as hospitaliz­ations continue to increase.

Positivity rate

The state reported 228 COVID-19 cases out of 11,683 tests for a positivity rate of 1.95%, which is down from Tuesday’s 2.7%, which was the highest figure Connecticu­t has seen since May 11.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate stands at 1.44%.

Hospitaliz­ations

As of Wednesday, Connecticu­t has 58 patients hospitaliz­ed with COVID19, an increase of four since Tuesday and the highest number since June 13, when there was 71 hospitaliz­ations.

This figure has steadily increased since July 11 when the state reported just 25 hospitaliz­ations.

State officials have not yet reported how many hospitaliz­ations, or positive tests, are from individual­s who are unvaccinat­ed.

Yet, hospital officials have said most patients who are severely ill with COVID19 have not received their vaccine.

Deaths

Connecticu­t will report its COVID-19 death toll every Thursday. It last reported 8,282 deaths, during the pandemic.

The United States has now recorded 609,686 COVID-19 deaths, according to the Coronaviru­s Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University.

Vaccinatio­ns

As of Wednesday, 68.7% of all Connecticu­t residents and 78.9% of those 12 and older have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while 62.5% of all residents and 71.7% of those 12 and older are fully vaccinated, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
