Metropolit­an District urges customers to seek water bill aid

HARTFORD — Metropolit­an District customers with overdue and unpaid balances on their water bills are urged to apply for financial relief through the Connecticu­t Low-income Household Water Assistance Program, according to the agency.

The Low-income Household Water Assistance Program, a one-time water assistance grant program for eligible households, is administer­ed by the state Department of Social Services and community action agency partners, according to the MDC.

The regional partner for the MDC is the Community Renewal Team Inc. Hartford area office and applicatio­ns for the program will be accepted through June 30, according to the Department of Social Services, the MDC said in a statement.

MDC customers can contact the Community Renewal Team at 860-5605800 or at crtct.org/ for details about the program.

“We want customers facing financial hardships to be aware that there are assistance programs available to them,” Scott Jellison, MDC CEO, said in the statement.

Financial assistance is available for customers in MDC towns of Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfie­ld, Windsor, Glastonbur­y, South Windsor, Farmington and East Granby.

MDC customers also can contact Operation Fuel to determine eligibilit­y for water bill assistance at www.operationf­uel.org/ gethelp.
