Munoz makes history with 2nd 60 in season

Sebastian Munoz shot an opening-round 12-under 60 to take the clubhouse lead at the Byron Nelson on Thursday in Mckinney, Texas.

The round wasn’t completed when this edition went to press.

The 29-year-old Colombian, who lives in the Dallas area, followed his only bogey with an impressive mid-round surge to become the first player in PGA Tour history with two rounds of 60 or better in the same season.

Munoz also had a 60 in the opening round of the RSM Classic in November, although that was a 10-under score. He went on to finish third.

„ Former champ Steve Stricker shot an opening-round 7-under 65 to take a two-stroke lead over Miguel Angel Jimenez and Wes Short Jr. at the Tradition in Birmingham, Ala. Stricker, 55, won the senior major in 2019 . ... Madelene Sagstrom shot an opening-round 9-under 63 to take a one-stroke lead at the LPGA Founders Cup in Clifton, N.J.

Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy was arrested on a misdemeano­r domestic violence-related charge in suburban Denver . ... Gino Cappellett­i, a former AFL MVP and original member of the Boston Patriots who was part of the franchise for five decades as a player, coach and broadcaste­r, died. He was 89. Cappellett­i played receiver and kicker and was one of only three players to play in every game in the AFL’S 10-year history. Cappellett­i spent his entire career with the Patriots (196070), ending it as the AFL’S all-time leader in points (1,100) and FGS (170).

Tennis: Top-ranked Iga Swiatek earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over former No. 1 Victoria Azarenka to reach the Italian Open quarterfin­als and extend her winning streak to 25 matches. The last time a player won more consecutiv­e matches was when Serena Williams won 27 in a row over 2014 and 2015.
