Feds: Man charged with child pornography offenses free on bond
Norwalk resident on electronic monitoring
A Norwalk man who has been charged by federal criminal complaint with child pornography offenses is free on a $100,000 bond and under electronic monitoring, according to federal authorities.
Jake Scott Flewellyn, 24, surrendered to law enforcement and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge S. Dave Vatti in Bridgeport this week, then was released, according to federal authorities.
The case began when National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a report in December 2021 from the provider of the smartphone messaging application Kik about a Kik user who was allegedly distributing videos of child pornography through its service, federal authorities said in a statement, citing allegations contained in court documents.
Kik deactivated the user’s account, the statement said, and in early April 2022, “while federal law enforcement was investigating this matter to determine the Kik user’s identity, Kik submitted to NCMEC another report of a user account that was being used to distribute videos of child pornography,” federal authorities said in the statement. The investigation revealed that Flewellyn allegedly “created both Kik accounts and used them to distribute images and videos depicting child sex abuse,” the statement said.
The complaint charges Flewellyn with distribution of child pornography and accessing with intent to view child pornography, the statement said.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Norwalk Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert S. Dearington and Neeraj N. Patel, according to federal authorities.
