Yard Goats pound Patriots on Saturday

Thehartfor­d Yard Goats scored four runs in each of the first two innings on the way to a 9-2 victory over the Somerset Patriots on Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark in bridge water township, N.J. Tyler Hill had a two-run double in thefirstin­ning, Daniel montano hit a three-run home run in the second and mitch kil kenny retired the first 11 batter she faced while tossing five solid innings for his fourth win. Relievers Dugan Darnell, Fineas Del Bonta-smith and Blair Calvo retired 11 of the final 12 Somerset batters with seven strikeouts.

The Yard Goats scored four runs in the first off Matt Sauer in his Double-a debut. Kyle Datres began the scoring with an RBI single, Willie Maciver was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Hill contribute­d with a two-out, two-run double to makeit 4-0

The Yard Goats added four more runs in the second inning, highlighte­d by Montano’s threerun shot. The Hartford outfielder belted a pitch over the right field fence for his 11th homer of the season to makeit 8-0.

Kilkenny allowed only two runs and two hits with four strikeouts in five innings.

The Yard Goats and Patriots played the final game of the six-game series Sunday evening. The game wasn’t over in time for this edition. The Yard Goats return home Tuesday to begin a six-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Dunkin’ Donuts Park.

Athletic beat Indy Eleven: Firsthalf goals from Danny Barrera and Ariel Martínez were enough to get Hartford back in the win column on Saturday night with a 2-1 victory over Indy Eleven at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford. The Athletic ended a sevengame winless stretch (0-5-2). Barrera left-footed a shot from outside the box to the bottom right corner in the 19th minute for a 1-0 lead. Martínez made it 2-0 in the 26th minute when he leftfooted a shot from the left side of the box to the high center of the goal assisted by Prince Saydee following a fast break. Ayoze García converted a penalty shot for Indy in first-half stoppage time. Hartford goalkeeper Yannik Oettl made five saves for the win. Indy’s Sean Lewis also had five saves. Hartford Athletic are home again next Saturday for a match against Miami FC at 7 p.m.
