49ers’ Lance suffers season-ending injury

-

49ers quarterback Trey Lance will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right ankle Sunday.

Lance went down after running the ball on the second drive of a 27-7 win over the Seahawks. Lance’s leg was put into an air cast before he was taken off the field on a cart.

He was replaced Jimmy Garoppolo, who threw a TD pass on his first full drive and passed for 154 yards.

Lance took over the starting job this season from Garoppolo after being drafted third overall in 2021.

Lance spent his rookie season mostly on the bench watching Garoppolo as the 49ers went all the way to the NFC title game before losing to the Rams.

The 49ers planned to trade Garoppolo, 30, this offseason but were unable to after he underwent shoulder surgery in March.
