Djokovic tops Tsitsipas for 4th title of season

Novak Djokovic needed only 75 minutes to win his 90th tour title, overcoming third-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Astana Open on Sunday in Kazakhstan.

Djokovic, ranked seventh and the tournament’s No. 4 seed, dominated his Greek opponent from the start, winning the first game in little more than a minute. The Serb didn’t face a break point in the match and hit 15 winners with only seven unforced errors.

It was the Wimbledon champion’s fourth title of the year, including Rome and Tel Aviv.

The Tsitsipas, 24, was chasing his third title of 2022 after Monte Carlo and Mallorca.

Djokovic, 35, also won the tournament in Tel Aviv last week.

Barbora Krejcikova beat Iga Swiatek 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to win the Agel Open in her home country of the Czech Republic. Krejcikova also won last week’s tournament in Estonia. Swiatek, the WTA’S top-ranked player, had won in her last 10 finals appearance­s.

College football: Georgia took back the No. 1 spot in The AP poll from Alabama after being bumped out last week by the Crimson Tide, who slid to No. 3. Ohio State moved up a spot to No. 2. James Madison is in the Top 25 for the first time in its program history. The Dukes are playing their first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in Division I college football’s highest level.

Golf: Steve Stricker shot a final-round 3-under 69 to earn a two-shot victory over Harrison Frazar (65) at the PGA Tour Champions’ Furyk & Friends in Jacksonvil­le, Fla. It was the 55-year-old Stricker’s fourth senior title this year.

Soccer: Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, scored the 700th club goal of his career to lift Manchester United over host Everton 2-1. United moved a point off the Premier League’s top four.
