Gilbert, John E. "Jackie"

John E. “Jackie” Gilbert, 82, husband to the late Sondra (Swedt) Gilbert passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2023. He was born to the late Clarence and Agnes (O'leary) Gilbert on January 31, 1940 in Wethersfield. Jackie was a stand out three sport athlete at Bulkeley High School he has records that are still standing at Bulkeley and was even elected to the Bulkeley High School Hall of Fame in 2017. Although he was an incredible overall athlete, Jackie exceled in Baseball and was drafted out of high school by the San Francisco Giants. Jackie elected to stay in Hartford and became a Hartford Firefighter in which he served the City of Hartford for over 32 years.

Jackie is survived by his five children, Kelly Prattson, Kimmy Gilbert, John Michael Gilbert, Monique Gilbert and Edward Gilbert and his step-son, Robert Finan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mikey, Regina, Shanna, Maximus, Brooklyn, Olivia, Cyrus and Hannah, his great-granddaughter, Isabella and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. Jackie is predeceased by all nine of his siblings.

Friends and family may call on the Gilbert family on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the Farley-sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jackie's life will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 10:00AM in Saint James Church of Saint Theresa of Calcutta Parish, 896 Main Street Manchester, CT.
