Lillard nets 60 points in Blazers’ win vs. Jazz

No offense to the Jazz, but Damian Lillard said scoring 60 points against them was fairly simple. Not easy, just simple.

Lillard had a seasonhigh 60 points, hitting nine 3-pointers, and the Trail Blazers beat the visiting Jazz 134-124 on Wednesday night.

Lillard tied for the second-most points in the NBA this season. Donovan Mitchell had 71 in an OT game for the Cavaliers against the Bulls on Jan. 3, and Luka Doncic scored 60 in the Mavericks’ OT victory over the Knicks on Dec. 27.

Lillard, 32, has four career games of 60 points or more. He finished Wednesday’s game 21 of 29 from the field, 9 of 15 on 3s and 9 of 10 at the line.

He also had eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals.

College football: A Louisiana Legislativ­e Auditor’s report says LSU accidental­ly overpaid Tigers coach Brian Kelly by $1 million during the first year of a 10-year, $100 million contract. The report says LSU discovered the error in November has moved to correct it by adjusting 2023 payments to the coach.

Golf: Sam Ryder shot a second-round 4-under 68 to take a three-stroke lead over Brendan Steele (70) at the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego. The PGA Tour event at Torrey Pines began Wednesday and will conclude Saturday.

The league is expanding its partnershi­p with the Players Coalition to address issues of racial and social justice with a five-year extension and a $15 million grant through its Inspire Change initiative. The agreement comes as the league and its teams say they have surpassed a $250 million commitment to combat systemic racism. The NFL says that goal was reached four years ahead of schedule . ... The Jets hired former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinato­r. Hackett, 43, was fired by the Broncos on Dec. 26 with a 4-11 record in his first season.
