Douglas C. Nelson, 90, of Southingto­n, husband of his sweetheart, the late Jean (Anderson) Nelson, for over 65 years, passed away Sunday (February 5, 2023) at Mulberry Gardens in Southingto­n. Born in New Britain, to Robert and Ruth Nelson, Douglas was a graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 1949, received a degree from the University of Hartford and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A longtime Kensington and Southingto­n resident, Douglas was employed in Engineerin­g Management at Raymond Engineerin­g (now Kaman) in Middletown for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed working on home projects and repairs, loved to be outdoors, hiking or in his later years walking around the neighborho­od.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Nelson and his wife Cynthia of Westfield, PA; and Jeffrey Nelson and his wife Patricia of Southingto­n; a daughter, Karen (KC) Nelson-oliveria and husband David Oliveria of Prescott, AZ; a brother, David Nelson and his wife Eleanor of Southingto­n; two sisters, Lita Nyren of Southingto­n; and Mary Aduskovich and her husband Peter of Haddam; 5 grandchild­ren; 5 great grandchild­ren; several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date at First Congregati­onal Church of Southingto­n. Burial with military honors will be private in West Lane Cemetery, Kensington.
