Ira Alexander Levin, 92, of West Hartford, CT, died Saturday, March 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband, for 67 years, of the late Barbara (Reuben) Levin. Ira met Barbara at his high school prom and they were married in 1953. Born in New Britain, he was the son of David and Fannie (Beck) Levin. He graduated from Suffield Academy and Bucknell University, where he later created scholarshi­ps for students in need. Ira owned and operated the New Britain Plumbing Supply Company. He had deep respect for his employees and was a leader in trade associatio­ns. He had a strong work ethic and was sensitive to the plights of others. He and Barbara were long time members of the Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford and Ira served on its board of directors. They were inaugural donors to the Hospital for Special Care Foundation in New Britain. He was a faithful New York Giants and Red Sox fan, loved watching the Uconn women's and men's basketball teams, and enjoyed golf and card games. He sang to Barbara every morning in his sweet tenor voice, created touching and funny songs for family occasions, and loved college marchingba­nd tunes. He was happiest when surrounded by his family. Ira was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfathe­r, and great-grandfathe­r. He is survived by his three daughters, Nancy of San Francisco, Jane and her husband Robert Rifkin of Belmont, MA, and Jacqueline of West Hartford; grandchild­ren Sarah Renert, Benjamin Renert, Leah Renert Beck and her husband Scott Beck and Emily, Sally and Julia Rifkin; great-granddaugh­ters Mara Susan Beck and Lydia Beth Beck; nieces, nephews and many dear friends. In addition to Barbara, Ira was predecease­d by his daughter Susan Levin Renert and his sister Roslyn Yellin. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 15, at 12 pm, with Rabbi David Small officiatin­g in the sanctuary of the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford. The service will also be presented on the Emanuel's Zoom link, https://zoom.us/j/502382254. A procession will follow to the Emanuel Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike (intersecti­on of Jordan Lane and Berlin Turnpike), Wethersfie­ld. There will be a shiva gathering, 3 P.M. at The Mcauley, 275 Steele Rd., West Hartford. The family expresses a heartfelt appreciati­on to Dede Ajavon, Ira's caregiver for three years, and to the staff at the Mcauley for their support and friendship. Donations in Ira's memory may be made to the Emanuel Synagogue, the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, CT, or to a charity of donor's choice.
