Barbara L Louis, 99 years of age, of Bloomfield, died Monday, March 13, 2023 at Seabury Retirement Community. She passed peacefully in her sleep. Born in Chicago, Illinois she was the daughter of the late Fred and Vera Grosshans. Barbara was a long-time resident of West Hartford and worked for many years at the Town of West Hartford Public Library. She and her late husband George were members of the Beth El Temple of West Hartford. Barbara was a shining light to all who knew her. Her bright smile which came through with a twinkle in her eyes, lit up any room. Her jokes which she loved to share brought many smiles and laughter to not only those who knew her but also to strangers willing to stop and listen. Barbara had many talents and hobbies. She served as a docent with George for several years at the New Britain Museum of American Art, was a member of the Simsbury Light Opera Company, loved art, gardening, knitting and reading. She participat­ed in combined staff and resident performanc­es at Seabury Retirement Community and was a member of the chorus. She leaves her son Mark, and his wife Kathy, her daughter-in-law Tricia (late son Richard) Louis, her sister-in-law Ellin Louis Ginsburg Ivanyi, niece Ann Ginsburg, and her grandchild­ren Sean Louis, Joshua Louis and his wife Nicole, Brooke Louis and her fiancé Michael Spyros, Melanie Louis, Brian Louis and his fiancé Jessica Sherrod, and great grandchild­ren. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon.
