Parente, Nunzio

Nunzio Parente, 94, of Newington, died peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the Hospital of Central CT. He was the beloved husband for 59 years of Cristina (Marcoffio) Parente. Born and raised in Sepino, Italy, he was the son of the late Costantino and Angiolina (Brini) Parente. Nunzio moved to the United States at the age of 20 and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He lived in West Hartford and Hartford before settling in Newington in 1972. After many years of employment, he retired from The Metropolitan District (MDC) and was a member of the Mount Carmel Saint Cristina Society. He loved spending hours in his vegetable garden and making wine. Nunzio was an avid newspaper reader and especially enjoyed reading about politics.

Loving and devoted to his family, he leaves two sons, Dino Parente and his wife Cathy of Wallingford, and Rich Parente and his wife Laura of Orange; and six grandchildren, Colin, Connor, Tyler, Jason, Giustina and Angelina. He also leaves his sister Annette Marcoffio of Revelstoke, BC, Canada, and his brother Emilio Parente and his wife Adeline of East Windsor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Carmela Sanzo and her husband Joseph Sanzo, and brother-in-law Domenic Marcoffio.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. His funeral service will begin on Monday, March 20, at 9:00 am from Newington Memorial, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Church of the Holy Spirit.
