Mahoney, Lorraine (Ugaglia)

Lorraine Ugaglia Mahoney passed peacefully in her sleep early on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

Born Lorraine Ann Ugaglia in Torrington, CT in 1935, she grew up and graduated from Torrington High School 1952. She began her nursing studies at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT and then attended St. Louis University to complete her training. Lorraine stayed actively engaged with her nursing classmates throughout her life.

Lorraine met Patrick James Mahoney in Hartford on a blind date and they married February 11, 1961. Lorraine and Patrick lived in Latham, NY before moving in 1967 to Simsbury, CT, raising a family of five. Lorraine was active at St. Mary's Church in Simsbury, and later worked at the Head Start program at Sacred Heart Church in Hartford. She was active in supporting the ABC House and initiative­s to develop more low income housing in the community.

In 1989 Patrick & Lorraine moved to Falmouth, MA, and Lorraine taught nursing at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School. In 1999 Lorraine and Patrick moved to East Falmouth and soon began participat­ing at the closer St. Anthony's parish after their service at St. Patrick's. Lorraine volunteere­d for years at Falmouth Hospital Emergency Room, as well as parish thrift stores. She was a member of St. Joseph Guardian of the Holy Family parish where she served as a lector for many years. In addition, she was a Benedictin­e Oblate of Weston Priory in Vermont. She was a woman of great faith and she loved and practiced her faith throughout her life.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 62 years, Deacon Patrick Mahoney; five children, Martha Mahoney & her husband Gregory Nastu, Patricia Moran, Tim Mahoney & wife Mary Ellen Maurer Mahoney, Matthew Mahoney & wife Tatiana Mahoney, and Peter Mahoney; niece Karen Mozzer & her husband Mike Mozzer; twelve grandchild­ren, Billy Moran, Melissa Moran, Sage Moran, Caitlin Mahoney, Elliott Mahoney, Aidan Mahoney, Li Mahoney, Patrick Mahoney, Matteo Mahoney, Jeremy Mahoney, Lucas Mahoney, and Cora Mahoney; over 200 cousins in Italy and France; and many, many close friends.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 4-7 PM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 475 Main Street, Falmouth, MA. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday March 24, 2023 at 11 AM at St. Anthony's Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway, East Falmouth, MA. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gifford Street, Falmouth, MA.
