Wright, Frank L.

On May 11, 2023, Frank Louis “Sonny” Wright of Middletown, CT, transitioned to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer and a spinal injury.

Frank was born on July 2, 1945, in Hemingway, SC. Shortly after graduating high school, Frank moved to Middletown, CT, where he reached 47 years of service with Pratt & Whitney until his retirement in 2011. Shortly after arriving in Middletown, Frank also attended barber school. Then, in the late 70s, Frank became the owner of Wright's Barber Shop, where he cut hair until a few months before his transition.

Frank's foundation was rooted in serving the community. Frank served as Honorary Past Master for the Free and Accepted Masons Inc.; George W. Crawford Lodge No. 21 F. & A. M., Prince Hall Affiliation, Inc. in Middletown. He was known to be a resource for those in need, whether in free haircuts, loaning his truck, monetary, or just advice. Post-retirement, he would collect food from stores and restaurants, driving to local towns and offering food to those in need.

Frank is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Buena; children Sonya and Terrence (Luz); grandchildren Zachary, Wynton, Myles, Esteban, and Jasmine; 5 surviving siblings, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, friends, and a community who will treasure his time with him.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 pm at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. On Friday, May 19, 2023, a viewing will be held from 10:0011:00 am, and a Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 am, both at Cross St. AME Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown—burial to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. A repast will be held at Cross Street A.M.E. Time will be allowed at the repast for personal reflections.
