Banner year helps put the Huskies in elite company

- By Kels Dayton

When the Uconn baseball team saw its name come up during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Monday, the Huskies had officially joined a prestigious group of schools who can claim they've truly had a banner year in athletics.

Not only did Uconn baseball earn an NCAA bid for the fifth straight year and ninth time in 13 seasons, they also put the Uconn athletic program in rarefied air. Only eight schools in Division I reached the men's and women's basketball tournaments, a football bowl game and the college baseball tournament this season, according to a tweet from the Uconn football account.

The list? NC State, Duke, Iowa, Alabama, Maryland, Tennessee, Texas and Uconn.

Of those schools, the Huskies are the only ones to have won a championship this season as well.
