Yard Goats will face Dominguez, top Yankees prospect, Somerset this week at Dunkin’ Park

Jasson Dominguez, widely considered the top prospect among position players in the Yankees farm system, will be playing in Hartford this week as the Somerset Patriots come to Dunkin’ Park for a six-game series against the Yard Goats.

Dominguez, 5 feet 9 and 190 pounds, got off to a slow start in 2023, after an impressive spring training (10-for-22 with four homers) with the major league club. But after hitting .140 in April, he hit .237 with five homers and 18 RBI in May and overall is at .211 with eight homers and 29 RBI in Somerset’s 46 games, with a .370 on-base percentage. At age 20, he is about 4 years younger than the average player in the Eastern League.

A switch-hitter, nicknamed “The Martian” for his exceptional power, Dominguez could slug his way into a the Yankees’ left field picture by this time next year.

Somerset (29-21) is 2 ½ games behind Portland for first place in the Northeast Division first-half title race. The Goats (23-27) are 8 ½ back.

First baseman Tyler Hardman leads the team with 11 homers and 29 RBI. Catcher Austin Wells, a first-round draft pick in 2020, has nine homers and 28 RBI.
