Huskies open tour of Europe with game vs. Croatian All-stars

- By Lori Riley

The Uconn women's basketball team is embarking on its European exhibition tour with games beginning Wednesday in Zagreb, Croatia, home of guard Nika Muhl. All four games are scheduled for 7 p.m. local time in Croatia, Slovenia and Italy, which is 1 p.m. ET.

Uconn departed for Europe on Monday and was set to arrive in Croatia on Tuesday.

The games will not be streamed online so unfortunately, fans at home won't be able to get a glimpse of the new freshmen or Paige Bueckers potentially playing after missing last season with a torn ACL in her left knee. Bueckers was cleared for full contact practices last week.

Head coach Geno Auriemma said last week that the trip is about more than just basketball.

“Basketball over there is just part of the trip … but like I tell the team, every time we've gone over there, we've found out something about somebody on our team that helps us going forward or they find out something about themselves or their teammates,” Auriemma said.

Muhl said she's looking forward to playing in front of friends and family in her home country.

“There's gonna be probably the most people I'll ever play in front of in Croatia.” Mühl said. “I'm super excited about that. My friends, family and my neighbors, people from all over the place coming to see that game. Uconn fans in Croatia that I didn't even know. So it's gonna be fun.”

Uconn's European schedule is as follows:

Wednesday: Uconn vs the Croatian All-stars, Zagreb, Croatia

Friday: Uconn vs. Akson Ilirija, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Monday, Aug. 21: Uconn vs. Italian All-stars, Baricella, Italy

Wednesday, Aug. 23: Uconn vs. Pecs (Hungary), Murano, Italy
