Jones gets more help than Prescott

- By Andrew Callahan

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux wasn’t healthy enough to finish last weekend’s win over the Jets, but he did practice Wednesday in a limited capacity.

Godchaux hurt his ankle in the second quarter last Sunday and missed the second half. His participation in Wednesday’s padded practice indicates he could recover in time for the Pats’ upcoming game at Dallas.

Godchaux was one of five Patriots listed on the team’s first injury report of the week, which did not include right guard Mike Onwenu, indicating he’s fully recovered from offseason ankle surgery.

The Patriots had only one starting offensive lineman, left guard Cole Strange, listed on their report Wednesday.

Meanwhile in Dallas, the Cowboys had three offensive line starters miss practice: Tackle

Tyron Smith (knee), guard Zack Martin (ankle) and center Tyler Biadasz (hamstring).

Big game for Elliott: Jerry Jones implied the Cowboys have something special planned for their former running back, Ezekiel Elliott, when he returns to AT&T Stadium as a member of the Patriots on Sunday.

Elliott, coming off the best game of his Patriots career in Sunday’s win over the Jets, kept insisting Wednesday during a news conference at Gillette Stadium that he’s handling his homecoming like any other game.

“It’s cool going back to Dallas,” Elliott said. “I spent a lot of time there, a lot of great time there, but when you go out there, gotta keep the main thing the main thing and that’s going out there and getting better as a team and going out there to get another win. …

“I keep saying it. It’s just another week for me. Not going to make it bigger than what it is. I want to go out there, play Patriot football. We want to go out there, get better, get a win. Just the next stop on our 17-game journey.”

Cowboys head coach Mike Mccarthy told the media in Dallas that his team won’t be surprised if Elliott is a “featured player” in Sunday’s game.

“Zeke has always been a powerful, strong runner,” Mccarthy said Wednesday.

D-line help added: The Patriots signed defensive lineman Manny Jones to their practice squad, sources told the Herald.

Additional depth along the defensive line was needed after the Patriots placed defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale on injured reserve Tuesday.

Jones, who’s 6 feet 4, 290 pounds, has spent time with the Steelers and Cardinals since going undrafted out of Colorado State in 2022. He joins fellow defensive tackle Jeremiah Pharms Jr. on the practice squad.
