Roy, Genevieve G. (Meyer)

-

It is with great sadness that we announce Genevieve “Gen” Gertrude (Meyer) Roy 96 years old left us Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 to be reunited with her parents and brother in heaven. She passed peacefully at home with her family. She was the daughter of the late Albert Meyer and Gertrude Shea Meyer.

Gen was born on July 31, 1926 in Rockville, CT and lived most of her life in East Windsor, CT. Despite having polio, she was a strong, independent woman who never let it stop her from doing the things she wanted to do. Gen graduated from East Hartford high School in 1946 and worked in the secretarial profession for many years. Gen married Robert in 1954 and they took great care of each other. Robert made sure to tend to her every need especially as it became more difficult for her to get around. She was a nurturing and loving mother to her two adoring sons. And she passed her strength to all of her extended family and friends

Family came first and was the most important thing to her. She loved getting together during the holidays with family and friends. She enjoyed Wednesday visits with her two sons and Sunday visits when her husband, children and family would sit around the kitchen table having coffee and talking. She enjoyed time with her husband each afternoon as they sat outside on the back deck enjoying the sunshine. Gen also loved family cookouts in their backyard. She enjoyed holidays together as it brought yet another chance to visit with extended family and friends to celebrate. Gen loved meeting people and everyone she met became her friend. Gen looked forward to trips with Terry & Norm to the Mohawk Trail each fall and staying at the Sweetheart Inn. Some of Gen's favorite activities were going to the casino, playing bingo at the senior center where she loved to show off her fancy painted fingernails, day trips, and church bake sales. She was a religious person and a founding member of St. Philip Church in East Windsor. She loved life, flowers, the color purple and was very proud of her Irish and German heritage. Gen's beautiful Irish eyes were always smiling !

Gen leaves behind her husband and soulmate Robert P. Roy to whom she was married for 69 wonderful years. She also leaves her son Bob J. Roy and his wife Karen of Enfield and her son Gary A. Roy and his wife Marianne of East Hartford. Gen was proud of her six adoring grandchildren, Nicole, Christopher, Erin, Ryan, Jason & Bryan. She also looked forward to seeing her seven great-grandchildren who loved to visit with her as well.

We would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Millie, Laura, Andrea, Marcia and Robin who were angels sent from heaven taking such great care of her over the past 8 years. She treated each of them like family.

We would also like to thank her team at Hospice for making her last few months comfortable and pleasant for her and family.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Friday, December 8th from 3 to 6pm at the Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner St., East Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 9:30am at St Philip Church, 150 S Main St., East Windsor. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Rockville.
