Curran, Edmund Thomas

-

CURRAN Edmund Thomas (Ed) Curran, age 86, of Bloomfield, died Friday, December 30, 2023. He is survived by his children, Kathleen Curran, Elizabeth Curran, and Edmund T. Curran Jr, and his wife Lauren; his beloved grandchildren, Caitlin Curran and Liam Curran; his sister Lilarose Hulton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his high-school sweetheart and wife of 57 years; Patricia (Doyle) Curran; his parents Edmund and Lila Rose Curran and his brother Leo Curran.

Ed was a lifelong Connecticutian. Born in Bridgeport, he attended that city’s Sacred Heart grammar school and Bassick High School and went on to graduate from Yale College and Yale University School of Law. Then to Hartford, where he practiced law as a trial attorney with Regnier, Taylor, Curran and Eddy throughout his career, retiring as managing partner in 2002. Ed was a long time-member of the Association of Defense Trial attorneys, serving as treasurer from 1987 until his retirement in 2002. He was also active in Bloomfield politics, serving on various committees and the Town Council in the 1970s and 80s, including several terms as Deputy Mayor. He also was financial custodian of church and home as a member of the Sacred Heart Church finance committee and his homeowners’ association.

Ed was passionate and laser-detailed in all things important to him. Inspiring, and on occasion maddening, this was an expression of his utter joy of the discovery and sharing of knowledge. Ed was a storyteller, a wordsmith, a historian, a singer of Irish rebel music and lover of Irish history. An inveterate collector, he acquired political pins, slang words, wine, and artifacts from around the world, to name a few. Silly puns and favorite movie quotes always made him laugh, and his quick wit meant he often gave better than he got. His life was lived large, and the world is smaller with him gone.

His dear friend Carol Doyle provided loving support to Ed, and to his children. The family would like to give its heartfelt thanks to Ed’s physician, Dr. Upendra Hegde, for his unfailing attention, kindness and care.

Calling hours will be at Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield, Thursday January 4th, 4pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 10am Friday January 5th. Ed will be laid to rest at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. Molloy Funeral Home of West Hartford has care of arrangements.
