Czarnecki, Jadwiga

Jadwiga Czarnecki, 95, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Born in 1928 in Osowiec, Poland to Franciszek and Juliana Karwowska, she was one of eight children. Her entire family survived the atrocities of Stalin's forced deportation of Eastern Poland. Exiled to Kazakhstan in 1939, they found safety during WWII in Polish resettlement camps in Tanzania, relocating afterwards to England. There she met and married Bernard, a decorated Polish army veteran and her husband for 68 years. As displaced persons they immigrated to Bristol where they raised their four children: Gabryela, Tomasz, Marek, and Julian; especially beloved to Jadwiga is her daughterin-law Kathleen and treasured grandson Daniel. Jadwiga was employed at Ingraham Clocks and Superior Electric, forming close lifelong friendships with the Polish American women working with her. She was a devout member of St Stanislaus Kostka Parish, singing in the choir, treasurer for the Towarzystwo, belonging to the Polish Rosary Society and auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. She was a member of the Polish Cultural Club of Greater Hartford, the Polish-american Congress and Polish National Alliance, receiving their 2002 Woman of the Year Award. She will be remembered as a faithful wife, committed mother and loyal friend. Her piety, integrity and uncompromising conscience allowed her to witness and outlive historical catastrophes as well her life's own personal challenges. At Jadwiga's request, there are no viewing hours. Friends are invited to join her family for a Mass of Christian Burial at St Stanislaus Church, 510 West St., Bristol, on Friday January 5, 2024, at 1:30 PM followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery and a reception at the parish center.
