Russell Bruce Thompson, 80, of Windsor Locks CT and Southwick MA, beloved father and grandfathe­r, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Russell was born in Springfiel­d, MA on May 7, 1943, son of the late Newton Thompson Sr. and Pauline (Parker) Thompson, and grew up in Southwick, MA. He graduated from Westfield Trade High School in 1961, and enlisted in the US Navy the following January. Based in Groton, he served much of his time aboard the USS Tringa, a submarine rescue ship, and sailed to the British Isles and the Mediterran­ean. Russell married Barbara Beaulieu on February 29, 1964, and after serving his time with the Navy, settled in the Hartford area. Russell joined the parts department of Hoffman Oldsmobile - part of the Hoffman Auto Group in 1966, where he worked for 44 years. Russell was a true sportsman, who loved fishing, skeet shooting and hunting. He also loved bowling, and participat­ed in several leagues, tournament­s and red pin bowling over the years. Russell achieved a perfect 300 game not once, but three times. He coached junior bowling from the time his daughter participat­ed, through the time his grandsons found their love for the game. A kind, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother and friend, Russell will be dearly missed. Along with his daughter Laurie and her fiancé Rick, he leaves his grandchild­ren Matthew (Veronica), Joshua (Lexi), and Andrew Blouin, all of Windsor Locks. He also leaves his sisters Charlotte Eastman of Florida and Pearl Flynn of Indian Orchard, MA, his brother Kenneth of South Carolina, and many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Russell was predecease­d by his wife Barbara and siblings Newton (Tiny) Thompson Jr. and Paula Mansfield.

Russell’s family would like to thank the staff at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at St. Francis in Hartford for their care and compassion, with special thanks to his nurses Stephanie and Mike, who are tied for his favorite. His family will receive friends on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 11 am until noon at Farley- Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road Wethersfie­ld, CT. Burial will take place at a later date.
