Carmelena A. “Carmie” (Bottaro) Battaglio, 94, of Cromwell, entered into God's care on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Carmie was born March 07, 1929 in Birmingham AL. She was the daughter of the late Antonio Bottaro and Rose (Maenza) Bottaro, and was the wife of the late Nicholas Battaglio, Sr. for 54 years. Carmie was a long-time resident of Wethersfie­ld, before moving to the Covenant of Living in Cromwell in 2008. She was a graduate of Weaver High School, class of 1947 in Hartford. Before her retirement in 1989, she was employed by Travelers Insurance Company, working in the accounting department.

Carmie was a bright light in every room she entered, with a laugh that was contagious, and a heart full of warmth and love. A woman of many interests, Carmie had a strong passion for the arts, teaching ceramics and attending the theater. She played the French horn in her high school marching band and always loved to sing, specifical­ly harmonizin­g. Additional­ly, she loved to garden and play cards, as well as other games, which she almost always won. Carmie and Nick were avid travelers, at one point hoping to explore and visit every state.

Family is what Carmie lived for. Carmie is survived by her daughter, Lizabeth Battaglio of Vernon and two sons, Nicholas Battaglio, Jr. and his husband Todd Rondo of Middletown and Anthony Battaglio and his wife Barbara of Largo, Fl; sister, Nina Catalano; brother, Frank Bottaro and his wife Sophie. Carmie will also be missed by her three grandchild­ren, Nicholas Battaglio III, Gina Battaglio and Alona Battaglio and her husband Nathan Halegua, and her great-grandson, Michael Halegua, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predecease­d by brothers Sam, Joe, Manuel, Angelo and sister Virgie.

The family wishes to extend an incredibly special thanks to Carmie's very dear friends Rosemary Hart and Morena Cocolla for their care, compassion, and support.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 10 from 9:3011 a.m. concluding with a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the D'esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfie­ld.
