Maureen Burke Liegeot, longtime resident of Kensington, Connecticu­t, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2024. Born in Portland, Maine, Maureen was the oldest of nine children of Lt. Colonel Edward J. Burke and Marion Dugan Burke. She graduated from Highland Falls High School of West Point, NY, and Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. While in college, Maureen modeled for Kodak and Breck, and after graduating she taught school in Barcelona, Spain. In 1958, Maureen married Rene Liegeot at West Point and they settled in Kensington where they raised their family and attended St. Paul Church. Using her sewing and knitting skills, she made holidays unforgetta­ble by creating festive clothing for her children and grandchild­ren. Maureen and Rene were members of the Shuttle Meadow Country Club and spent summers at Lake Hayward where Maureen bought and renovated real estate. While raising her children, Maureen served as president of the Junior League and of the New Britain YWCA. Later, Maureen worked as a real estate broker and owned Community Real Estate and Community Travel. She was employed with H&R Block and served as Kensington Fire District Tax Collector for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling the world and loved sharing the stories of her adventures. Maureen's intelligen­ce, style and energetic spirit were a positive inspiratio­n to everyone who knew her. A loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r, Maureen is survived by her children, Lisa Liegeot (Nicholas) of Albuquerqu­e, Jana Petano (Richard) of Avon, Maura Liegeot of Kensington, and Adam Liegeot (Katelyn) of Kensington, together with six grandchild­ren and two great grandchild­ren. She is also survived by two sisters and three brothers and their families. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebrator­y Mass at St. Paul Church, 485 Alling St., Kensington, CT on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, 1165 Worthingto­n Ridge, Berlin. Friends may call at Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain on Friday, Jan. 12 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
