Yankees agree to two-year, $37 million deal with All-star pitcher Stroman

-

Marcus Stroman is heading back to New York.

The Long Island native and former Met has reached a deal with the Yankees, according to multiple reports. Stroman’s contract, which is pending medicals, is for two years and $37 million. It includes a vesting option for a third year.

Multiple reports added that Stroman’s option will vest — and bring the contract’s total value to $55 million — if he throws 140 innings in 2025. Injuries have prevented him from reaching that threshold each of the last two seasons, but that didn’t stop him from opting out of his contract with the Cubs, which would have paid him $21 million in 2024.

Red Sox settle contracts: The Red Sox managed to find common ground with all four of their arbitration-eligible players before Thursday’s deadline.

With Chris Sale traded to the Atlanta Braves, Nick Pivetta is the longest-tenured member of Boston’s starting rotation. How long that remains the case is unclear; Pivetta will be a free agent next offseason. He and the club agreed to a $7.5 million salary — a $2.15 million raise and significantly better than the $6.9 million projection — for what could be his last season in a Red Sox uniform.

Alsonso, Mets agree: Pete Alonso and the New York Mets avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a $20.5 million, one-year contract.

The agreement came on a deadline day around Major League Baseball, when arbitration-eligible players and their teams formally swapped 2024 salary proposals. Alonso had a $14.5 million salary last year, when he batted .217 with 46 home runs, 118 RBIS and an .821 OPS. The first baseman hit .271 with 40 homers and an .869 OPS in 2022, tying for the major league lead with 131 RBIS.
