Casserino, Carol L.

-

Carol Linda Casserino, 77, of Westbrook, CT, died peacefully on February 12th after a brief but valiant battle with glioblastoma.

Carol was born in Middletown, CT on December 23rd, 1946, the second child of the late Rose (Petzold) and Michael Casserino. She grew up living in Portland and Middletown and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School where she was active in the Girls' Sports Club and the Leaders Club.

After working as an executive secretary, Carol and her brother Michael took over the family's moving and storage business. Upon retiring from the family business, Carol went to work at the Elks Lodge in Westbrook as assistant to the secretary. She quickly became an invaluable member of the Elks family, and often volunteered evenings and weekends to help out with events. Carol was also very active in her church, Saint Mark's in Westbrook, and was often the person carrying the Eucharist to the priest during Saturday night services. She had countless friends — from her childhood, her church, her neighbors at the beach, the Elks, and her Pickleball teammates. Everyone who knew Carol loved her.

Carol's happiest days were those spent with family and friends, especially if it was on the beach during the summer. Carol leaves behind her daughter, Lisa Huffman and her grandchildren, Hope and Holden all of Hingham, MA; her beloved brother, Michael Casserino and his wife, Donna, of Westbrook, CT; and goddaughters Michele Eggleton and Amy Carta; her grandniece Tara Eggleton; along with numerous cousins.

Carol will always be remembered for her fierce independence and devotion to her family. We'll forever miss her feistiness, spaghetti and meatballs, and beautiful smile but her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 18th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lastrina Family Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, February 19th at 10 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, Westbrook. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Sebastian's Cemetery, Middlefield.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Glioblastoma Research Organization (gbmresearch.org) would be greatly appreciated.
