A man is facing multiple motor vehicle charges after fleeing a traffic stop, attempting to flee a second one and intentionally crashing into a Connecticut State Police cruiser in Tolland late Friday night.
A trooper from Troop C reportedly witnessed a blue Subaru Impreza with Maine registration tags speeding and failing to stay in its lane around 11:12 p.m. on Friday on River Road in Willington, according to state police.
The trooper, who believed the driver was “risking serious injury or death to the public,” attempted to make a traffic stop, state police said. According to state police, the Subaru came to a complete stop before accelerating and fleeing at a high rate of speed.
Troopers in the area located the vehicle heading west on Tolland Stage Road in Tolland and again attempted to make a traffic stop, state police said. The Subaru driver intentionally rammed his vehicle into an occupied state police K-9 cruiser before coming to a stop in the area of Evergreen Drive in Tolland, according to police.
State police said no injuries were sustained in the crash.
The Subaru driver, identified as 27-year-old Jacob P. Klotzer of Bolton, was arrested and transported to Troop C, according to state police.
Klotzer was processed and charged with interfering with an officer, criminal attempt of assault on a public safety officer, second-degree reckless endangerment, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of plates, failure to maintain lane, following too closely, failure to obey a traffic control signal and failure to display plates, state police said.
He was being held on a $250,000 cash/surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Rockville Superior Court on Tuesday, according to state police.
