Halpin, Beverly

-

Beverly Block Halpin lovingly called “Bibby” by her late parents Miriam and Nathan Block and “Bibehleh” by her adored Bubbie Block with whom she shared a room as a child, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Hartford on June 30, 1934 she started her education at Vine St. School where she met lifelong friends Ursula Ackerman and Bunny Strachman. She was a 1952 graduate of Weaver High School, attended The University of Connecticut then transferred to CCSU where she received her degree in elementary education.

At age 10 she went to the circus with her friend Bunny and her devoted cousin Joe Veroff and was traumatized when they were separated as the tent went ablaze and until she learned that they had returned home safely as she did. She never went to another circus.

In the early 1950s her brother Albion brought home a fraternity brother for her to meet, a romance ensued and in 1957 she married Myron (“Tony”) Halpin of New Haven. They made their home in Bloomfield in 3 different locations and were happily married for 67 years. In 1961 their daughter Linda was born and their son Jim in 1963. When her children were school age, she resumed her education and received a Master's Degree in Special Education from St. Joseph's College. For the next 25 years, she taught special needs students in Bloomfield creating games and fun lessons to enhance their learning.

Always a devoted daughter, she retired in 1992 to care for her aged mother and later two aged, childless cousins in New Britain. She was an accomplished cook and baker, could sew and tailor clothes for herself and her daughter, had a flair for choosing appropriate and flattering outfits, played the piano well, and was a good Bridge player. Her home was always open to visits from family and friends and her freezer was always full of delicious pick-up baked goodies to serve.

She is survived by her husband, her daughter of Bloomfield, her son of South Windsor, her sister-in-law Ruth Block of West Hartford, and her brother-in-law John Wright of London, England. She was predeceased by her brother Albion Block.
