David Francis Marran, 56, of Durham, devoted husband of Wendy (Genga) Marran, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Greenwich, CT, son of the late John D. and Lorraine (Burton) Marran. Dave attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, where he met his future wife, Wendy. They spent nearly 40 wonderful years together and Maine always held a special place in their hearts. He earned his PH.D. in Mechanical Engineerin­g from Yale University. For the last 15 years, Dave was employed as the Director of Engineerin­g for Thermofish­er Scientific in Guilford, CT. He contribute­d to all aspects of the company's genetic sequencers, from inception and developmen­t to manufactur­ing and product launch. He loved his job and was a creative and caring mentor to all. Dave was a humble and grateful man. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and riding his Peloton. He had a quick wit and an even quicker smile. His love of family and friends and his endless optimism sustained him throughout his life, and especially in the last three years as he battled Glioblasto­ma. His courage and strength continue to inspire all who knew him. His family would like to thank his teams at Smilow Cancer Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and especially Gaylord Rehabilita­tion Hospital. Dave is survived by his wife, Wendy; cherished daughters, Sarah, Olivia, and Abigail Marran; brothers, Roger (Nadine) Marran, Kenneth (Lynn) Marran; sister, Margaret Marran; as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 1st from 4 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Durham. Burial will follow at Resurrecti­on Cemetery, 1080 Horse Hill Rd in Westbrook.
