Alice Lillian Brown, 91, of Willington, CT, passed away Sunday, February 25th. She was born April 25th, 1932 to Scott Nickless and Helen Boynton of Freedom, Maine. She is survived by her sons David, his companion Kathy, son Duane, his partner Scott; her granddaughters Lauren, Shannon and Natalie; brotherin-law Steve; sister-in-law Paula; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harold; her oldest son Dwight; his partner Bruce; brothers Milford, Leroy, Bobby and Joe. She and Harold were married for 70 years, and during that time she became a second Mom to many kids in town through a long network of volunteering. Mom, Ma B, Mom B, Mom-zo, Auntie Alice as she was known to family and friends, was a wonderful quilter, knitter and crocheter, gardener in the warm months, skater and world-class snowman maker in the Winter. She would talk to anyone, anytime and anywhere, finishing the conversation, no matter how long it took. She made sure everyone was included, everyone felt valued and every one had a chance at bat, whatever that may mean. Her two favorite sayings were "Complaining takes time" and "You should be kind to everyone, even if they're purple with 8 arms". Indeed, the most common words used to describe her were kind, compassionate and thoughtful, making sure that at her table, everyone had a seat. She loved cowboy music, Gene Autry and Marty Robbins, and could recite the stats for most UCONN women's basketball teams over the last 20 years. A small ice cream cone every night, the hammock at dusk so she could watch the bats, making sure her bird feeders were always full, and wind singing through the pine trees around the pond at the house gave her the deepest joy. She rose early to watch the light, and showed us all how to dance with the fireflies. The only thing that made her pause was how fast everything moved, the lost art of just sitting and breathing, and being grateful for it all, good and bad. We miss you deeply, Mom. We know you're sitting by a pond, eating cold strawberry soup and singing a cowboy tune. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
