Gehris, Peter W.
Peter W. Gehris, 85 of Palm Harbor FL., passed away Monday, February 26, 2024, at St. Francis hospital. Peter was born on September 19, 1938, in Hartford, CT., to Joseph L. Gehris and Beth Williams Gehris. He graduated from Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT in 1956 and from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in1960. After serving on active duty as a member of the New Jersey Army National Guard, he joined Travelers Insurance Company in 1963. That year he married the love of his life Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Jones. Last year they celebrated 60 wonderful years together. During his career at the Travelers he held a number of positions, including Vice President Underwriting, Vice President Annuity Division, Vice President Marketing and General Agents, Vice President Travel Insurance Division, and President of Travelers Equity Sales Inc. He retired from the Travelers in 1993 after 30 years of service, and founded Travel Insured International where he was Chairman, President, and CEO. Pete was proud to have the opportunity to work with both his sons at Travel Insured. He was a generous man who prided himself on the ability to form a fun, friendly, family environment at Travel Insured. He enjoyed interacting with the employees on a daily basis up until his retirement in 2018. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandsons play hockey, and was eagerly anticipating the birth of his great-grandchild late this March. Pete is survived by his beloved wife Betty, his son Jonathan D. Gehris, daughter-in-law Tina Gehris and grandchildren Ashley Puniello and her husband Nick, Peter J. Gehris and his wife Reagan, Nicholas Gehris and Noah Gehris. Pete was predeceased by his son Jeremy Scott Gehris and his brother David V.R. Gehris. He is also survived by Jeremy's wife Sharon Gehris of South Windsor and grandchildren Crystal Gehris and Trent Gehris. Pete leaves behind a treasured sister-in-law Jane Gehris of Palm Harbor FL, brother Jonathan A. Gehris and sisterin-law Kathy of Medford, N.J., and numerous nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Peter's memory may be made to The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving- The Gehris Family Foundation fund.
