Mark Rabinowitz, 71 of Branford, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, on March 1, 2024. Mark was born on March 11, 1952 in Bronx, New York and was always proud of his New York upbringing and Jewish heritage.

Mark was a devoted husband, father, and grandfathe­r who cherished his wife, children, and grandchild­ren. They were the center of his life and he often told his wife “We are so fortunate to have so much good in our lives.”

Mark's career in education spanned over forty years. He was a teacher in Darien, CT before coming to Branford Public Schools in 1977 where he first worked as a school psychologi­st. He was named principal of Sliney School in 1984 and in 1991, became the principal of Tisko Elementary school, where he dedicated 19 years, until his retirement in 2010. He establishe­d a culture of respect, excellence, and family with a mantra of “Be the best you can be”. He valued his relationsh­ips with each student who passed through the halls and the long lasting friendship­s he developed with the teachers with whom he worked.

After his retirement from Tisko, Mark continued to work as an interim school psychologi­st in many school districts and was especially proud of his work with high school students in Region 17.

Mark enjoyed spending time with treasured friends, spending time in Florida, kayaking, attending Jimmy Buffet concerts, maintainin­g his gardens, and fraternizi­ng with his Hotchkiss Grove neighbors on the beach. He was a great conversati­onalist and actively listened to your thoughts and ideas. He treasured his role as a grandparen­t and enjoyed any and everything that interested his grandchild­ren.

Mark was an amazing man and will be tremendous­ly missed. He is survived by Fran, his beloved wife of 43 years, his children: Sean (Kara), Mara, Megan (Peter) and his six grandchild­ren: Jordan, Jack, Benjamin, Vivian, Henry, and Charlie. He is also survived by his Aunt Barbie and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predecease­d by his parents, Norman and Fannie Rabinowitz and his brother, Fred Rabinowitz. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday morning March 6th at 11 am at Temple Beth Tikvah, 196 Durham Rd, Madison. Interment to follow at Temple Beth Tikvah sec. of Beaverbroo­k Cemetery, RT. 145 Clinton. The family will sit Shiva at Mark and Fran's home Wednesday evening from 7 to 9PM and Thursday from 3 to 9PM.
