Goldstein, Marsha I. (Indenbaum)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marsha Indenbaum Goldstein, 79, of Newington, CT and Jupiter, FL. Marsha was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 21, 1944, to Albert and Emma Indenbaum. The oldest of four children, she grew up in a house filled with love, food, tradition and joy. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, friend, aunt and grandmother. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with (and baking cookies for) her nine grandchildren. She was beloved by all who knew her for her open heart, generous spirit and the fact that she always found the positive in others.
From early on Marsha was curious, outgoing and made friends wherever she went. She attended the University of Connecticut where she met the love of her life, Barry Goldstein. Happily married for nearly 60 years, they bonded over UCONN basketball games, enjoying over 1600 UCONN games together. They created a life and a house filled with sports, lively conversations and laughter. The most important part of their lives was their deep love and commitment to family, which they passed down to their three children and grandchildren, taking family vacations with all 17 in tow.
Marsha was also deeply committed to her community and improving the lives of others. She went back to school in her 40's and received a Masters in Community Psychology and went on to help women who lacked proper education and training to develop life and career skills that would set them up for success. After battling and beating breast cancer, she dedicated herself to raising awareness and funding for the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative (CTBHI). She remained extremely active in fundraising, served as co-chairman of the grant committee and, with her poise and enthusiasm for the cause, often acted as the spokesperson for CTBHI. She had an intense passion for charitable activities and championed the causes she believed in with tremendous heart. Always true to herself and her principles Marsha shared her exuberance for life boldly with her family, her community and the organizations she served.
She is survived by her loving husband, Barry; her three children, Eric Goldstein and his wife Lisa, Joelle Cohn and her husband Ken, Evan Goldstein and his wife Lisa; and, her nine grandchildren, Morgan, Max, Jakob, Maya, Grayden, Sammy, Ethan, Eliana and Riley. She is also survived by her three siblings, Gary Indenbaum, Susan Yammer, Lori Indenbaum and their extended families. Our lives have all been enriched by Marsha. Her warm, caring, loyal, generous and loving spirit will always be with us.
A service and a celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, March 13th at 11:30am at Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Rd., Newington, CT.
