Charges filed in fatal hit-and-run motorcycle crash

A Hartford man was arrested Wednesday and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle in Vernon last month, police said.

On Feb. 27, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash on Prospect Street involving a white 2018 Infiniti Q5 and a 2008 Harley Davidson, according to the Vernon Police Department.

The motorcycle rider, identified as 25-year-old James Faulkner of Vernon, was transporte­d to Rockville General Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries, police said.

According to police, the Infiniti driver, later identified as 20-year-old Jahmarcus Mccatty, fled the scene.

On Wednesday, the Vernon Police Department, along with the Hartford Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, Emergency Response Team, Fugitive Task Force and Auto Theft Task Force, served a search warrant on a home in Hartford.

Inside the home, officers located Mccatty, who was taken into custody on an active warrant charging him with first-degree manslaught­er, evading responsibi­lity resulting in death, following too closely, evading responsibi­lity causing physical injury, second-degree larceny, stolen license plates, failure to wear a seat belt, reckless driving, misuse of a license plate, illegal racing on a roadway, failure to obey a stop sign and improper turn, according to police.

Mccatty is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Friday, police said.

He also faces charges in Hartford as a result of the search warrant, according to the Vernon Police Department.
