-

Jan Mary (Aivaz) Sweeney, 53, of West Hartford, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, was called to eternal life on Friday, March 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, after a long, courageous and heroic battle with cancer. She leaves the love of her life, Peter J. Sweeney, to whom she was married for 22 years.

Born in Springfield, MA, she was the devoted and loving daughter of the late Mary (Kazimierczak) Aivaz. Jan was raised in New Britain and Plainville, moving to West Hartford to raise her family.

Jan had a passion for event planning and owned a wedding and event planning business, Day 2 Remember Events, where her creative talents would bring magic to any space. She was remarkably selfless and generous, always putting others before herself. Jan was employed by Brookdale Chatfield, West Hartford, as an activity program coordinator, where her compassion and kindness was experienced by all who knew her. She enjoyed traveling the northeast, and especially loved camping at Peppertree Campground with dear friends. She treasured family vacations in Wildwood, NJ, throughout her life.

She loved her family with all of her heart. Her children and Peter were her life and meant the absolute world to her. Left to honor her special memory are her children Amanda Rose, Peter Joel, III, and Emma Sophia. She also leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including her aunt and uncle, Marion “Mimi” and Pierre Boucher, whom she viewed as second parents. She leaves her sisters, Kelly Hurley and Krystal Dejesus and their families, and her loving companions, Bella and Lexi. Jan loved that her husband and daughter are members of Newington Volunteer Fire Dept. Co. 3, which she considered family.

She was predeceased by her grandparents Ben and Rose Aivaz, her uncle Ken Aivaz, and her in-laws Patricia and Peter Sweeney.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Brewer, her nurse Alicja and all the nurses at the Neag Cancer Center, as well as Kelly and staff at the Infusion Center at Uconn Health Center.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11:30 am, at Duksa Family Funeral Homes, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. She will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newington Memorial. Memorial donations may be made to Newington Volunteer Fire Dept.
