Bauer says he’s facing Yankees in Mexico City exhibition

-

Trevor Bauer, unsigned by a major league team after serving the longest suspension in the history of MLB’S joint domestic violence, sexual assault & child abuse policy, shared that he’s pitching against the Yankees in Mexico City on March 24 as a member of the Diablos Rojos.

The two teams are playing exhibition games on March 24 and 25.

A Yankees spokesperson did not immediately reply when asked if the team had advanced notice of Bauer’s participation.

The right-hander added that he’s agreed to pitch in five games for the Mexican League team between April 11 and May 8, an alternative to a traditional spring training experience. Bauer is hoping to stay in game shape in the event that he signs a major league deal that has yet to come.

Bauer has not pitched in the majors since 2021. Initially handed a 324-game suspension, an independent arbitrator reduced it to 194 games. The Dodgers then released him.

Bauer and the woman whose sexual assault accusations led to the suspension recently settled civil lawsuits outside of court and did not exchange money. Other women have accused Bauer of sexual assault. Prior to the suspension, Bauer had a history of harassing women and making inflammatory comments online.

The 33-year-old Bauer won the National League Cy Young Award for his work with the Reds during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He has a 3.79 ERA over 1,297.2 major league innings for Arizona, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Los Angeles.

Bauer pitched for the Yokohoma Dena Baystars in Japan last season, recording a 2.59 ERA over 24 games.

Rodón looks sharp

Carlos Rodón looked strong against the Phillies on Monday, twirling 5.2 no-hit innings at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The lefty didn’t allow any runs, walked one and struck out five over 72

pitches.

Formermanagerjoetorre, serving as a guest instructor at Yankees camp, then pulled Rodón from the game.

All eyes are on Rodón with Gerrit Cole out, as the

two-time All-star battled injuries and struggled during his first year with the Yankees last season. The plan is for Rodón to start the second game of the regular season.

The Latest on Lemahieu and Judge:

During an in-game interview with the YES

Network on Monday, Aaron Boonesaidthatdjlemahieu will miss a few days after a foul ball bruised his right foot on Sunday. The infielder has seen a foot specialist, and Boone said that tests haven’t shown a fracture.

After the game, Boone added that Lemahieu has a “a pretty significant

bone bruise,” according to Mlb.com’s Bryan Hoch. It’s unclear if he will have enough time to get ready for Opening Day on March 28.

Boone also said that he plans on having Aaron Judge back in the lineup on Wednesday following a Tuesday off day for the team.
