Man dead, woman critically injured in double shooting

New London cops: Looks like attempt at murder-suicide

- By Taylor Hartz

Two people were shot — one fatally — in an alleged attempted murder-suicide that occurred in a New London apartment while two young children were home, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a person being shot at 159 Hawthorne Drive just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday and found a 30-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and a 31-yearold man had one gunshot wound, according to the New London Police Department. The man died later, police said.

Police also found two children in the apartment, ages 9 and 5.

Neither of them were visibly injured, police said, but they were both taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.

Police and fire officials believed both shooting victims had “sustained life threatening injuries” and administered lifesaving measures on scene. The man and woman were both taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, police said.

The man who was shot was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. He had not yet been identified.

The woman was in critical condition and undergoing treatment, police said.

Police said their preliminary investigation found that the shooting stemmed from a domestic violence incident and appeared to be an attempted murdersuicide.
