Valdor Joseph Martin, 98, of Farmington, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Thomas Martin and Rosannna (Caron) Martin of St. Agatha, ME. He was the beloved husband of 72 years to Theresa (Albert) Martin. Their love story began in 1952 when they first met at the French Club of New Britain. Valdor Martin was born on December 17, 1925, in St. Agatha, ME, one of 11 brothers and sisters. Valdor served in the Navy for four years. He moved to CT and started working at Collins Company Axe Factory in Collinsvil­le, where he stayed for 18 years. When they went out of business, he had the opportunit­y to work for the Town of Plainville for 20 years where he retired. He was the supervisor for the Buildings and Grounds Department, where he reported to Ed Blanchette. He finished his career as a school crossing guard in Farmington and has done so for 12 years. Above all else, Valdor enjoyed spending time with his family. They always enjoyed their yearly trip to Frenchvill­e, ME, where they would vacation at his mother-in-law’s home, Phoebe Albert. Valdor always enjoyed joking around with all his grandchild­ren. He loved to play cards with his family and friends. He enjoyed his Uconn Basketball and was meticulous about his landscapin­g. He especially loved car racing and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. He never wanted to miss a trip to the casino with his wife. Valdor is survived by his wife Theresa (Albert) Martin and his 3 sons and daughter: Dean Martin of Unionville; Michael and Susie Martin of Burlington; Philip Martin of Florida; and Ann and Wayne Wright of Wallingfor­d. He also leaves behind 9 grandchild­ren: Kellie, Connor, Ryan, Travis, Mika, Claresa, Devin, Jennifer and husband Alex, and Michelle and husband Sam; and 2 great-grandchild­ren, Marshall and Aurelia. In addition, he leaves behind his brothers: Valmond Martin of Newington, Lincoln Martin of Bristol, and Thomas Martin of Plainville. In addition to his parents, Valdor is predecease­d by his brother, Harold Martin and his sisters: Lillian (Martin) Gagnon, Marianne (Martin) Corriveau, Mazie (Martin) Bouchard, and Jackie (Martin) Vallencour­t. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on April 1, 2024 at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, 145 Main Street in Unionville. A period of visitation will be held prior from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the church. Burial with military honors will follow at the Connecticu­t State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Valdor’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 280285, East Hartford, CT 06128.
