Ernel Beckford, 88, of Enfield, husband of Hazel Beckford (Stewart), passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29th in Hartford, CT surrounded by family. Ernel was born on July 28, 1935 in Chester Castle, Hanover, Jamaica. Soon after migrating to the United States in 1968, he began working as a metal machinist at Colt’s Manufactur­ing, retiring after 25 years of service. He also worked as Head Waiter with the Sheraton Corporatio­n for 17 years. He is remembered as a proud, hardworkin­g, God-fearing husband and father. He was passionate about cooking, and often indulged in cooking delicious meals for family and friends. Creating appetizing meals was his way of expressing creativity, and nurturing connection­s with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling alongside his lovely wife. Together, they explored Hawaii, London, South Africa, and various Caribbean islands. He was a devoted member of North United Methodist Church for 38 years. His commitment to his faith was evident through his active involvemen­t in the church's hospitalit­y committee. Serving as a dedicated caterer for countless church events, he brought warmth and nourishmen­t to the congregati­on, embodying the spirit of service and fellowship. Besides his wife, he is survived by his six children, Curt Beckford and his wife, Paulette of Windsor Locks, CT; Mark Beckford, and his wife, Christine, Dallas, TX; Marcia Beckford of Miami Shores, FL; Maxine Beckford Ursery of Bloomfield, CT; Bruce Beckford, and his wife Crystal of Laurel, MD; and Stuart Beckford of Hartford, CT. He is survived by his ten grandchild­ren, Ebony, Sharadia, Brandon, Jordan, Alexus, Bruce Jr., Alexis, Brianna, Eric, Jason; and four great-grandchild­ren, Jackson, Elliott, Cole, Olivia; and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by two siblings, Ruthlyn Harris of Bristol, CT; and Dr. Hansel Beckford and his wife Hyacinth of Kingston, Jamaica. He is predecease­d by his parents, Eustace Beckford and Mary (Hudson) Beckford; two brothers, Cleveland Beckford, Ishmael Beckford and a sister, Ivette Beckford.

A Homegoing Celebratio­n will be held Monday, April 8 at North United Methodist Church, 1205 Albany Ave., Hartford, CT. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM.
