Carolyn (Akers) Carter, 77, of Granby, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, with her loving husband, Robert by her side. Carolyn was born in Goshen, NY in 1946, daughter of the late Leslie and Catherine (Tuthill) Akers. Raised in Goshen, NY, graduating from Goshen High School in 1964, Carolyn continued her education at Becker Junior College earning an Associate Degree in Accounting. After graduation, Carolyn came to the Hartford area, working briefly at Pratt & Whitney, at Travelers Insurance and then a full career at Cigna in Bloomfield, CT. While at Cigna, Carolyn managed Cigna’s Mutual Fund Accounting Department with some 19 people on her team. There was such a good rapport with this team, they frequently had get-togethers on their own time. Carolyn always kept a friendly but profession­al presence, she was loved by everyone in the company. Later, Carolyn was the Treasurer for an investment arm of Cigna’s, Global Portfolio Strategies. Carolyn was a member of the Church of Scientolog­y, having been introduced to the church by her husband Robert when they were first married in 1988. She was an active church member, helping many inmates through extension courses for some 29 years as part of the church’s Criminon program, and participat­ing in many other church volunteer activities. Additional­ly, Carolyn was a staff member of the church’s local Hartford Mission for some 10 years. Carolyn played an active part in the Granby community, serving as an elected town official (Zoning Board of Appeals) in the 1970’s, President of the Granby Community Fund and volunteeri­ng at the town paper, The Granby Drummer. Carolyn took pleasure in getting along with and helping others. Carolyn is survived by Husband, Robert J. Carter of Granby, CT; brother, Eugene Akers and wife Lynn of Rochester, NY; and Christophe­r Akers and wife Kathy of Rock Hill, NY; cousin, Linda (Scoville) Gould of Pauling, NY; many nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Carol Y. Thorney of Granby, CT. Predecease­d by her parents, Leslie and Catherine (Tuthill) Akers; sister, Annabelle (Akers) Gowdey; and step-mother, Agnes Akers.
