James Edward Leiper, 84, of Colchester CT, passed away on March 31, 2024, surrounded by family.

He was born in Hartford on August 23, 1939, the son of Anthony Casey and Elizabeth (Cook) Leiper.

He attended Farmington High School followed by 2 years at the Coast Guard Academy where he played soccer, baseball and hockey before a sports injury led to his transferri­ng to Central CT State University to earn a teaching degree.

He retired from Thames Valley State Technical College as Director of Admissions in addition to teaching English and creating and coaching their basketball team.

Everyone who knew The Leips knew how much he loved golf. He was locally legendary, known for his long, straight drives. He held the course records at both the Willimanti­c and Norwich Country Clubs, and he shot his age every year from ages 66 to 80.

Jim is survived by his brother Albert Leiper and his wife Johann of Milford, his son Jeffrey Leiper of Taftville, his daughter Jennifer Kelly of Colchester, his grandchild­ren, Kyla Kelly of Washington, DC and Nolan Kelly of Colchester, as well as John and Shawna Kelly and great grandchild­ren Avery, Nora and Seamus Kelly, his nephews and their spouses Dan and Darlene Leiper, David and Mihwa Leiper, and his niece Donna Leiper. He had many cherished friends in Connecticu­t and Texas who meant the world to him.

He absolutely adored his dogs who were his faithful companions at every stage of his adult life, most recently his beloved goofball Layla.

He lives on in the hearts of all those who loved him and he is already dearly missed.
