Williams, Robert G.
Robert G. Williams, 100, of Newington, beloved husband of the late Elaine (Borggard) Williams, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2024. Born on February 15, 1924, Robert was the son of the late Harold and Jessie (Griffing) Williams. A WWII U.S. Navy veteran, Robert served for nearly three years in the Navy, spending one year at sea in the Pacific Theater aboard a Destroyer Escort, and another two years testing torpedoes. Upon graduation from Middlebury College in Vermont, Robert (Bob) went to work for the Connecticut Bank and Trust Company at its West Hartford office, where he worked for 11 years. He later transferred to the Union Trust Company in New Haven, serving as a president of the New England Economic Project, and retiring as Vice President of Market Research. Bob was also a graduate of the American Institute of Banking, serving as President of its Hartford Chapter. He was also a graduate of the School of Credit and Financial Management held at Dartmouth College and attended the New York University Graduate School of Business in New York City. Bob also proudly served as a Newington volunteer fireman for several years, starting with Company 3 and later transferring to Company 1, and was for one year, a president of Newington Volunteer Fire Dept., Inc. Bob and his wife, Elaine, were married for 59 years and had two children. He is survived by his daughters Claudia Neumann and her husband, Scott, of Newington, Cynthia Armstrong and her husband, Bryan, of Liberty Township, Ohio; and grandchildren Stephanie (Neumann) Guertin and husband, Jake, Daniel Neumann, Kyle Armstrong, and Brooke Armstrong. Bob was also predeceased by his brother, H. Elton Williams.
