Mellor, Mary C. (Mulqueen)

Mary Catherine (Mulqueen) Mellor, 92, of Suffield, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Gardner, Massachusetts on July 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Mary H. (Quintin) Mulqueen. Mary attended local schools and received her bachelor's degree from Vassar College and her master's degree from Radcliffe College. Mary was an elementary school teacher in Simsbury and Canton for many years before transitioning to Insurance and working as an Insurance Manager for Phoenix Insurance Company. She retired in 1994. Mary was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Boston Bruins. At 74 years old, Mary was also a Sprint Car Pit Crew Member and traveled to upstate New York and Canada for many races. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Suffield, a member of the Vassar Alumni Club, she volunteered at the 2nd Chance Shop in Suffield and was a longtime member and supporter of the Suffield Woman's Club where she was the scholarship chair. Mary was also on the Parkview Glen board of directors. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Betty) Tillander of Enfield, Patricia Mellor of Torrington, Douglas Mellor and his wife Laurie of Wilbraham, MA and Charlotte L. Skawski and her husband Zigmund with whom she resided of Suffield, her grandchildren, Patrick Clemens of Chicopee, MA, Barbara Stage of Augusta, GA, Erin Brule and her husband Bryan of Manchester, Beth Hamill and her husband Ian of Saginaw, MI, Seth Tillander of Burrville, RI, Chelsea Viets and her husband Daniel of Suffield, Bryce Skawski and his wife Jenna of Ft. Riley, KS and Christian Skawski and his wife Angela of Astoria, NY, and her 14 great-grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Charles Stuart Mellor, her son-in-law Stephen Tillander and her sister, Rita Newbury. Mary's family will receive friends on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 5-7PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East Street North, Suffield, CT 06078. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 9:30AM at Sacred Heart Church, 446 Mountain Road, Suffield, CT 06078. Burial will follow in Granby Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Suffield Woman's Club Scholarship, 341 North Main Street, Suffield, CT 06078.
