Dumond, Gerald J.

-

Gerald Dumond of Rocky Hill departed this world for the next, or ‘the other side' as he used to call it, peacefully in his sleep on April 12, 2024. Born March 3rd, 1932 in Sidney, Maine to the late Imelda (Melanson) Dumond. Gerald grew up in northern Maine until joining the Navy at age 17 then transferring to the Army. He was on the American ski team in Germany and later worked as an MP at the Spandau Prison in West Germany after the Nuremberg trials, plucking a tomato from the garden of Rudolf Hess (because he could) so he could tell his future grandchildren he had done so. Moving to Hartford after the military, he would meet the love of his life, Pauline D'orazio, to whom he was married 68 years. He later got his GED to set an example for his daughters. French was Gerald‘s first language. He went on to learn English, German, Italian, Latin and some Polish and Spanish. Gerald worked for many years at the Allen Manufacturing Co in Bloomfield and then the Ct State Department of Revenue. Gerald loved spending time with his family and friends, vacationing at Hampton Beach, Old Lyme, Aruba and Misquamicut, he loved the Red Sox, the Dallas Cowboys, music and dancing. Besides his wife, Gerald leaves his 3 daughters, Michelle St. Amand (Rejean) of Vero Beach Fl., Theresa Horan and her partner Michael Lupo of Hartford and Collette Sykes (Walter) of Rocky Hill as well as grandchildren Nicole Pixler, Danielle St. Amand, Sean and Amanda Horan, James Parry and Jason Sykes to whom he was affectionately known as Bampa, Pepa, Poppa. He also leaves 3 great grandchildren, Alannah, Gavin and Larkin and many other close family and friends. Gerald grew up thinking he was an only child only to find out at age 65 that he had 7 half siblings to whom he became close. Gerald was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. A gentle giant loved by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed. A special thank you to the staff at Autumn Lake rehab in Cromwell for taking incredible care of dad.

Friends may call on Saturday April 20, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Farley-sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. A Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 11:00 in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date. To extend condolences, please visit Farleysullivan.com.
