BROWN, HOWARD B., ESQUIRE Howard Barley Brown, Jr. passed away on April 13, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Willis Brown and devoted father to Kimberly Elizabeth and Kelly Ann Brown. Attorney Brown was raised in Eutaw, Alabama, attended Turner High School in Atlanta and was a proud graduate of Morehouse College which he entered at the age of fifteen. As a member of the U.S. Air Force, Attorney Brown received the highest level of security clearance (Top Secret Cryptographic Clearance). Attorney Brown graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1973. He began his legal career at The Hartford Insurance Company. In 1985, Howard Brown was appointed Banking Commissioner for the state of Connecticut. He continued his career at Kidder Peabody as Vice President for Public Finance and co-founded Greystone Community Reinvestments. In 2006, the Browns relocated to Atlanta, He continued to practice law with Bush and Miller, Attorneys at Law, and taught business law at his alma mater, Morehouse College. He served on numerous boards in Connecticut and was particularly proud to serve as Chairman of the Trustee Board at the historic Faith Congregational Church. He continued his service in Atlanta at First Congregational Church as a Trustee and member of the Choir. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Kappa Boulé of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, The History Makers, and the Pro-duffers. Howard was fun, he was enthusiastic, proud of his heritage, a loving family man and a joy to be around. He loved to grill and to cook but most of all he enjoyed the company of family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Elizabeth Odell Willis Brown, his daughter Kimberly Elizabeth Brown, his sister Dannette Brown Daniels (James) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kelly Ann Brown. Interment is scheduled for Friday, April 19th with a Memorial Service to follow at 12 noon at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Atlanta.
