Archibald Jr., David Lee

-

After a long and adventurous life - our father, brother, and friend, David "Dave" Lee Archibald, Jr. left his earthly life to join our ancestors in our heavenly home on Friday, April 5, 2024. Born in Northport, Alabama on May 30, 1963, to the late David Archibald, Sr. and Geraldine (Brown) Archibald. Although the family moved to Connecticut, his home state would come to define many aspects of his life. His southern roots influenced so much about the man he became. He believed deeply in treating others with kindness and respect. He loved to have fun like no other. Always a daredevil – if someone told him “No” – he would figure out a way to show them it was going down! No stranger to the road, Dave would often decide, “I need a road trip,” and just pack his bags and drive 15 hours to wherever the wind took him. Dave was a proud graduate of Bloomfield High School with the fun-loving class of 1982. He went on to attend Penn State and Alabama A&M. Later on, Dave gave 20 years of his life to the grueling work of managing inmates at various facilities at the State of Connecticut, Department of Corrections. One of his proudest achievements was becoming a dad to his sons, David and Malcolm. He loved his two sons with everything he had. He shared his love of being a dad by coaching baseball for the other kids in his community. As he had no daughters of his own, he treated his nieces like princesses' and often took any man they dated ‘to the shed' to have that talk about protecting his girls. Dave loved food! Taking after his dad, he could often be found grilling and talking neighbors and friends on any given day. He cooked all types of food from various cultures putting his own spin on things and making us all his guinea pigs. His other great love was football. A diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan, everyone knew not to call him on Sunday. The entire family celebrated with him the year his beloved Eagles won the championship. A native son of Alabama, his other great passion was watching the University of Alabama slaughter the competition year after year. Dave is survived by his sons: David L. Archibald, III and Malcolm X. Archibald; their mother, Patricia Archibald; his siblings: Bonnie Royster and her husband Willie Anthony, Demarius Rosemond and her husband Alvin, Keith Archibald and his wife Karen Martinear-archibald, Diwanda Archibald-johnson and her husband Keith, and Cassandra Collier and her husband Mark; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins by the dozens. Dave's fun-loving and generous spirit will surely be missed. We will never forget his strength, bravery, and love of family. His family will receive friends on Saturday, April 20, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 11 a.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Foundation, 95 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105. Carmon Windsor Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
