Giovanni Pasquale Basile (John), 92, of Windsor Locks, CT and beloved husband of Shirley Basile of 48 years, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born in Windsor Locks on Grove Street in 1932. He was the first baby ever delivered by the town doctor, Dr. Ettore Carniglia. He is the son of the late Anna (Christophe­r) Basile and Anthony Basile. He graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in Aeronautic­al Engineerin­g and continued his studies at Georgia Tech University. After graduation, he resided in Texas working at Chanse Vought Aircraft before moving back to Windsor Locks. Over the years, he frequently worked in his father's shoe repair shop on Spring Street. He furthered his engineerin­g career at Kaman Aerospace for the next 35 years, retiring in 1993. Upon retirement, he became the first Public Works Director for the town of Windsor Locks. He absolutely loved building and flying model RC airplanes and drones. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautic­s and Windingbro­ok R/C Flying Club. His other hobbies included golf, sailing, gardening, cooking and foraging for mushrooms. He is predecease­d by his first wife Barbara A. Perdoni -1969. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Giannelli (Phil Giannelli - deceased) of Windsor Locks and his children: Ann Marie Campanelli (Tony), John A. Basile (Susan), Carol Iwanski (Dan), David Richardson. He leaves behind several grandchild­ren: Nicholas Campanelli (Sarabeth), Anthony Campanelli, III (Nicole), John Anthony Basile, Jr (Hayley), Adam Iwanski, Tamara Iwanski (Lizzy) and great grandchild­ren: Franco, Anthony IV, Aubrey, Zachary & Oakley and many nieces and nephews. His step-nephew Bobby Pease, was a special friend to him as well. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am on April 26th at St. Mary's Church, Windsor Locks. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation at www.kidneyfund.org. The family wants to extend many thanks to the hospice nurses Kathy, Kristie, and Annette for their guidance. Special thanks to his 24 hr caregivers Maureen Bweupe and Princess Aduhene.
