-

Robert (Bob) Chesek, 89, passed away peacefully with family by his side at his home in Nokomis, FL on April 17, 2024. He was the devoted husband of Irene (Maher) Chesek for over 63 years. He was extremely humble and generous, and fiercely loved his family.

Bob was born on August 1, 1934 in Clarks Summit, PA to the late Frank and Ann (Alekna) Chesek. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Chesek, Jr. (Ollena) and his aunts Alice and Dell Alekna.

After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served as a Corporal in the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended night school at NYU while working at Chemical Bank. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Banking.

He met his wife in NYC in 1960, got married on Thanksgiving Day, and eventually moved to Wethersfield, Connecticut. He had an illustrious career as a Portfolio Manager at Phoenix Investment Partners in Hartford and eventually became President of the Investment Division and Chairman of the Board. He was a trailblazer, providing opportunities for women and minorities in his department. He mentored many of his colleagues, who went on to have their own successful careers in the investment industry.

After he retired in 1993, he became a snowbird, staying in Naples, FL during the winter and enjoyed playing tennis and investing in the stock market. Annual family reunion trips and family gatherings for birthdays and holidays meant the world to him.

Bob was very competitive professionally and personally. He was laser focused on beating the stock market. On the tennis court, he often served up aces and hit winning volleys.

He was also a passionate sports fan, cheering on the NY Giants, the NY Mets, and the Hartford Whalers, always rooting for the underdog.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Michael Chesek and daughter Amy Lubas (Jameson Myers), his grandchildren Jacob Lubas (Daryn) and Alexander Lubas, bonus grandchildren Nathan Myers, Jordan Myers (Victoria), and Quentin Myers, his nephew Anthony Chesek (Becky) and neice Kris Chesek, grandnieces, grand-nephew, and great grand-nephew.

In keeping with his wishes, a mass of Christian burial and a private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Tidewell Foundation, Salvation Army (directed to Drug Rehabilitation Services), and Catholic Relief Services.
