SARASOTA - Royce Brown Miller, 87, born in Hyden, Kentucky, passed away September 10, 2023, in Sarasota, FL. Born on March 26, 1936, Royce, always the gentleman, was a kind, loving individual with a passion for storytelli­ng and a genuine interest in people. He possessed a wealth of knowledge in various areas, including science, geology, counseling, and teaching.

Royce is survived by his wife, Evelyn, brother Larry Miller, daughters Elaine (Sean) McMichael, Evelyn (Doug) Sabbag, and Edwina Miller, stepdaught­er Angel Lindquist, stepson Bob (Denise) Marks, his granddaugh­ter Melody McMichael, his grandson Ryan (Avalon) McMichael, granddaugh­ters Hannah Marks and Angelica Lindquist, and his great-granddaugh­ter Symphony McMichael. He was preceded in death by his father Fred, mother Lula, and brother Raymond.

Royce attended Oakdale Christian Academy and Berea Foundation School, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from Berea College and a Master’s in Guidance and Counseling from Eastern Kentucky University with post-graduate studies at Appalachia­n State.

Along with serving in the National Guard, Royce had a rewarding career in guidance and special education at Moore Haven High and Palatka Middle School. His special joy was introducin­g his students to Earth and Space science at Venice High School.

Royce was an avid traveler who’s interests included art, music, carpentry, geology. Most of all he treasured his family and many friends. Royce will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His gentle, loving nature, along with his passion for life and knowledge, left a lasting impact on those around him.

Royce was an active member at Trinity United Methodist Church. A celebratio­n of his life will be held at his church, 4150 S Shade St, Sarasota, FL, Saturday Sept 16 at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in Royce’s memory may be made to Trinity UMC Missions.
